Muscat: An electric power cut was reported in the shopping area of Al Naseem Garden on Thursday due to heavy rain. The breakdown reportedly lasted more than four hours.

Salespersons and buyers endured the power cut amid rain and strong winds.

"It was bad day for me, because it is weekend, the day when buyers have enough time for shopping, but because of the power cut I could not deal with any buyer. All of the shopping area is closed until the electric supply issues are resolved," Mohamed Farooq, a jewellery stall owner from Pakistan, told the Times of Oman.

Buyers also expressed their woes as they could not see the items on display due to darkness.

"We came from Muscat just for shopping here. We waited all week for this day because it's the only day when we have more time for shopping. However, we feel disappointed as it has been more than three hours yet the organisers have not been able to solve the problem,"  Amana Al Raisi, a female shopper, told the Times' reporter.

Mr. Daweed Sulameen, an official from the organising committee, admitted that it was a major problem, which started after Wednesday night's heavy rain. "We are so sorry for the people who came for shopping. It will be fixed very soon," the Muscat Festival official said.
