Muscat: An Indian family of five who were killed in a tragic road accident, which also claimed the lives of four nationals, will be laid to rest in Oman, hospital sources and social workers said.
The Indian family hailed from Mumbai.
"We are coordinating with the victims' relatives in Dubai. They will be reaching on Thursday. As two bodies are not in a condition to be repatriated, they have suggested to bury it here," K.S. Mohammed Ali, a social worker and employee of Sultan Qaboos Hospital Salalah, said.
According to sources, the accident occurred late on Tuesday evening near Al Mazyouna in Salalah. "It was a head on collision between two vehicles. One of the vehicles was charred to ashes," sources said.
The Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulances (PACDA) posted a condolence message on its Twitter account following the tragic accident.
According to Major Said Al Badae from Royal Oman Police, a saloon car and a 4WD collided head-on in Duhoon area in Al Mazyouna at 5:30pm and one of the vehicles caught fire. "Over speed and wrong overtaking is seen as the reason for the accident," the official added.
The Omani victims were identified as residents of Al Mazyouna and the Indian victims were identified as Abdul Wahab, a planner at Port Service in Salalah, his wife Saika Abdul Wahab and his three sons, Mozawala Abdul Razack, Mozawala Osama Abdul Wahab and Mozawala Mohammed Bilal Abdul Wahab.
Abdul Razack was an ex-student of Indian school Salalah; Osama Abdul Wahab was an Indian school Salalah student who had just appeared for Class X examinations and Bilal Abdul Wahab was a Class X student of the same school.
"We were shocked to hear the news of the accident. Abdul Razack and I studied together from Class VI. He was always a helping friend. His marriage was fixed a few months back. We are not able to come out of the shock," Sahal Mohammed, a schoolmate of Abdul Razack said.
"When the bodies are brought to Salalah hospital we will go there," Sahal added.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident on Tuesday, three people were run over in Bidbid. One of the victims, a 29-year-old citizen, lost his life while a teenager was grievously injured and the third person sustained light injuries.
