Star hotel revenues surge to OMR48m in Oman

Muscat: Total number of guests at four and five-star hotels witnessed an increase of 22.7 per cent by the end of the first quarter of 2014, totalling 198,383 guest compared with 161,685 guest during the same period in 2013. The total revenue also grew by 7.4 per cent during the same period to OMR48.22 million from OMR44.91.

Occupancy rate also rose to 71.4 per cent in the first quarter of 2014 against 69.2 per cent during the same period in 2013 which reflects an increase of 3.2 per cent.

The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) revealed that guests from Europe topped the list of hotel guests during the first quarter this year with 83,468 guest, followed by Omanis with 53,561 guests, and guests from GCC countries with 19,156 visitors, and from Asia with 18,335 guests. Other guests were from other Arab countries, Africa, America, Oceania and other countries.

The statistics also showed that guests from Europe increased by 31.4 per cent and Omani guests by 10.6 per cent, guests from GCC countries by 20.6 per cent, and tourists from other countries by 36 per cent.

Breaking down the numbers on monthly basis, the total number of guests in January 2014 was 57,814.

The number grew and reached 69,344 guests in February 2014, which increased to 71,225 in March 2014. Revenues grew gradually from OMR14.71 million in January, 2014 to OMR16.446 million in February 2014 increasing to OMR17.063 million in March, 2014. Occupancy rate in January 2014 was 66.6 per cent, growing to 75.3 per cent in February 2014.
