Muscat: Rural Areas Electricity Company (Raeco) is planning to convert two diesel power plants with a combined capacity of 120 megawatt to use liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as feedstock.

We found that almost 120 megawatt can be used to replace diesel engines. A team formed by Raeco and oil companies is working on to find a solution to use the LPG," said Raeco company's chief executive officer Eng Hamed bin Salim Al Maghderi.
Eng Maghderi also noted that the two diesel power plants identified for conversion are in located in Dhofar and Musandam. "We are now in the process of getting the agreement with the fuel suppliers and for changing the technology."
