Muscat: To give a boost to efforts towards Omanisation, Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Bakri, Minister of Manpower, on Tuesday signed 18 agreements worth OMR1,108,090 to train 414 citizens.

Omani youth will be trained in areas such as handicraft, distribution and construction, among others. The minister also signed three agreements with local companies to construct buildings meant for training in Dhofar, Musandam and Buraimi governorates. The Salalah College of Technology will be renovated with a sum of OMR1,079,891.

Meanwhile, OMR1,207,388 and OMR906,275 were allocated to establish work department directorates in Musandam and Buraimi, respectively. Around 1,700 citizens have so far benefited from 33 training programmes in 2014. Omanis have been trained to work in the travel and tourism sector, auto, electrical and printing industry among others.

"The Omanis who will be trained have signed contracts and will join the private sector once they finish their training period," said Hamed Khamis Al Amri, undersecretary (work affairs) of the Ministry of Manpower.
