Muscat: Construction of Muscat's five-star W Hotel is expected to start by the end of this year with bids to build it being received next week, confirmed a senior official at Omran, the tourism development and investment arm of Oman.
The hotel project that Omran is developing is located near the InterContinental Hotel Muscat, Eng. Wael Al Lawati, Omran's chief executive officer told the Times of Oman.
"We chose the W brand because it is an art-based brand and is internationally known," he said, adding that the energetic ambiance that the hotel would have would match well with the Royal Opera House Muscat which is located close to it.
According to Al Lawati, the W Hotel would feature 300 rooms, one presidential suite outside the hotel, meeting facilities, a ballroom, a specialty restaurant near the beach and several restaurants inside the hotel as well as pool and spa facilities. "The hotel will be a very modern property, but it will definitely have Omani and Arab touches," he said.
Commenting on the current status of the project, Omran's CEO said that tenders have been floated and are expected to be received next week. "Construction is expected to begin by the end of the year, and it will take 30 months to complete," Al Lawati noted.

The official also said that the other five-star hotel project that Omran plans to develop at Muscat's Bausher Heights is waiting for the final approval of the government. "The design stage has been completed," Al Lawati said, adding that the Fort Hotel would have 100 rooms, a presidential suite, restaurant and a small ballroom.
The facility would have two parts, he said. "One part will be for public viewing which will include coffee shops and parking lots, and the second part will be for the hotel's guests."
