29 projects ready at Duqm economic zone

Muscat: As many as 29 projects have been completed at a total cost of more than OMR1.7 billion at Duqm economic zone.

These projects include a commercial terminal, the drydock, Duqm port, power plant, water desalination plant, electricity distribution network, water distribution network, main road, sanitary drainage plant, Crowne Plaza Hotel, City Hotel, the hospital expansion and
employees' camp, said Yahya bin Said Al Jabri, chairman of Special Economic Zone Authority in Duqm (SEZAD).

Majlis Al Shura hosted Al Jabri and the meeting was held under the chairmanship of Khalid bin Hilal Al Ma'awali, chairman of the Majlis Al Shura.

Al Ma'awali pointed out that Al Jabri in his presentation elaborated on the major strategic features of the special economic zone in Duqm, its main objectives, the major economic and investment projects, the programmes underway, especially those related to infrastructure projects, the dry dock and the industrial zone.

The presentation covered other projects, such as natural gas supplies, railway, the port, the internal roads, the expansion of the water distribution network, the expansion of the electricity network and drainage network.

Al Jabri also highlighted the economic advantages of the zone and shed light on the existing projects such as the drydock and shipyard.

It also explained about the marketing and promotion efforts including negotiations with Al Duqm Oil Refinery and Petrochemical Industries, for 1,000 hectares and with Al Duqm Port Company for 2,000 hectares of industrial lands.
