Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman will host the international medical conference, titled "The 3rd European and Asian Breast Cancer conference," from October 28 to 31, 2014 in Muscat.
The Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) will be primarily representing Oman for the purposes of this event of global importance held annually in one of the European or Asian countries.
The conference focuses on the fight against breast cancer through prevention, early detection and improving breast cancer treatment.
Speakers at this scientific gathering will be from Oman and abroad, and will be sharing opinions about ways to achieve early detection of breast cancer and improve research exchange between European and Asian countries.Oman will be the first Arab country to hold such an event, in which at least 50 experts will speak. These include Professor Umberto Veronesi, former Italian minister of health and the founder of 'EURAMA' Society, who has made significant contribution in the field of breast cancer and is considered a godfather in this field. Among the speakers will be Professor Peter Boyle, the president of International Prevention and Research Institute (IPRI) and an internationally well-known cancer prevention advocate.
The conference, which will have a multidisciplinary approach, will cover all aspects, such as epidemiology, early detection, radiology, histopathology, radiation and medical oncology, surgery, reconstructive surgery and psychology of breast cancer patient. This conference will feature two workshops – one related to medical residents' training and the second about nurses convention.
There will also be a scientific program, followed by a public awareness day focussing on early detection of breast cancer (Women awareness day). More than 600 randomly selected women from the society and from sponsoring companies will be invited to attend educational lectures in Arabic language as part of this day, followed by an illustration of breast self-examination, which has proved to be the best, safest, fastest and easiest method for early detection of breast cancer.
Dr Adil Al Ajmi, senior consultant at the Breast Reconstructive Surgeon, department of surgery, SQUH, said, "I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the enormous support of Sultan Qaboos University, the Research Council, Ministry of Health and Oman Medical specialty board, not to mention the special care accorded by the Italian embassy and Her Excellency Paola Amadei.

I am particularly glad that such a high level meeting might take place in Muscat. Italy and Oman are strongly committed to promote the scientific research in this field. It will be an extremely important occasion as well as to raise awareness.'"
