Oman Tourism Development Company to focus on large-scale projects, tourism development

Muscat: The Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran) held a meeting of its newly appointed board of directors (BoD), headed by Dr Ali bin Masoud bin Ali Al Sunaidi, minister of commerce and industry, and deputy chairman of the Supreme Council for Planning.

The new BoD members hailed the efforts of the previous board of directors and reviewed the company's mission under the new vision whereby the future focus will be on the development of large-scale projects as well as tourism facilities. The meeting also reviewed the current progress of the ongoing projects and investments, as well as the level of occupancy in the Omran owned hotels in the Sultanate.

Al Irfan project
In this context, the BoD members reaffirmed that the company has the potential for further growth and expansion in the next phase, as well as highlighting ways of collaboration with the various official planning authorities.

During the meeting, board members were briefed on the construction phases for the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre project and also reviewed design proposal submissions for the master plan of the new Al Irfan project (Muscat's new downtown).

The submissions comprised proposals from five globally renowned companies specialising in urban planning and integrated projects.

The board members also discussed enhancing the organisational structure of the company following an analysis and recommendations received from a consulting firm, and highlighted proposals to make the necessary amendments in order to align to the company's vision and objectives for the upcoming phase.
