Delightful Iftar options for Ramadan at hotels in Oman

Muscat: Ramadan is well under way, as we mark the month of fasting with shorter working hours and Iftar — the evening meal to break the fast, usually shared with family and friends.

With some of the best restaurants in Muscat and most seasoned kitchens in town, all the major hotels offer Iftar with a special Ramadan menu. Usually designed as buffets, Iftar offers a variety of options with cuisine that ranges from local favourites to popular international dishes.

The World Cup may dominate minds, but with special menus and buffets, here's what some of the city's top hotels have in store. We provide a sampling of where you can break your fast during Ramadan.

Hotels in Oman are celebrating Ramadan by offering fasting guests unique dining experiences throughout the holy month.

Al Bustan Palace
Oman's luxury resort, Al Bustan Palace, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel, invites guests to celebrate the Holy month of Ramadan with a sumptuous Iftar experience at Al Khiran Terrace. Guests may choose to enjoy the evening with family and friends in a private setting or join in a traditional Iftar dinner with members of the local community.

Held nightly during the Holy month, the Iftar dinner features a grand buffet offering a delectable selection of Middle Eastern dishes including hot and cold mezze, stews, barbecued meat and seafood, freshly baked breads and classic Arabic desserts. 

To complement the grand buffet, the culinary team at Al Khiran Terrace will also create a special Ramadan-inspired beverage for guests to enjoy during Iftar. Customised Ramadan decor and live music will further enhance the dining experience ensuring guests are enjoying their evening in an intimate and friendly setting. 

The Iftar buffet features different selections of food and beverages every evening, and is priced at OMR 18 per person.

In addition to the traditional festivities of Iftar, a special Ramadan Palatial Experience package is also available throughout Ramadan. Starting at OMR 120, the package includes an overnight stay in a deluxe room, Iftar at Al Khiran Terrace and special in-room Suhoor for up to two adults.

Shangri-La
From July 3 to 28, the Iftar buffet is being hosted on the ballroom terrace. Arabian tents have been put up, with decorations made from traditional Omani fabrics. After Iftar, guests are invited for entertainment organised by the resort.

Iftar buffet is available daily from sunset until 9pm at OMR18 per person.

Grand Hyatt
Oman's luxury 5-star hotel, Grand Hyatt, has invited guests to celebrate the holy month with 'Ramadanak' at Grand Hyatt Muscat' in three cuisine areas located in the hotel.

The Marjan lounge which is usually closed in the summer season, has been transformed specifically for this holy month, into a closed air-conditioned Arabian themed tent.

Sponsored by the National Bank of Oman and Maserati, the lounge is open every night from 8pm to 3am. They will be serving Suhoor, delicious Ramadan specialties, juices and will also be showcasing the FIFA World Cup games.

The Suhoor dinner features a grand buffet offering a delicious selection of Arabian dishes including hot and cold mezze, sandwiches, freshly baked breads and traditional Arabic desserts.

To complement the buffet, customised Ramadan decorations and music has  enhanced the dining experience.

The lounge also allows football fans to watch the FIFA World Cup live on large TV screens during their dining experience.

Iftar at Majlis  
Traditional Iftar will be served throughout the month of Ramadan in the hotel's lobby offering selections of Arabic and Omani specialties. The event features traditional Oud music that compliments the Arabian theme of the Majlis.

Selections of starters, main courses and Arabic desserts will be served during the evening, at a net price of OMR12 per person.

Other than food, selection of fresh juices and traditional drinks such as tamarind, karkadeh and amar al din will be served.

Sponsored by Gulf Air, the event allows the guests to win flights in a weekly raffle to over 38 destinations with Gulf Air. One ticket will be raffled away every week during Ramadan.

Iftar will be served daily, from 7pm to 9:30 pm.

Mokha Cafe buffet
Mokha Café provides authentic Iftar specialties during the month. Crowd favourites such as hot and cold mezze, soups and selections of hot food with live cooking stations will be provided.

The café makes sure to provide dates and laban, as it is the recommended way to break a fast and start an Iftar meal.

Iftar buffet is priced at OMR20 net per person including Ramadan juices and laban.

In addition, two Qatar Airways tickets will be raffled by-weekly, courtesy Qatar Airways, the sponsor of the event.

Iftar will be served daily from 7pm to 11:30pm.

The Chedi
The Chedi Muscat, one of the leading hotels in the country, offers two different dining experiences during the holy month of Ramadan

The restaurant at the hotel is offering an a la carte menu throughout Ramadan that includes salads, hot and cold mezze, barbecue and desserts.

Other than the restaurant, the courtyard has been air-conditioned and decorated with Ramadan themed decorations.

It provides a buffet that is available for groups of 15 or more, and includes hot and cold mezze, barbecue and Arabian desserts.

It also includes an assortment of shishas, drinks and snacks. The buffet is priced at OMR21 net per person.
