Muscat: Galfar Engineering and Contracting Company, an Omani firm with over four decades of excellence in engineering, contracting and construction, was awarded the North Oman Off Plot Delivery Contract for PDO in May 2005.

Galfar has now been given a 'variation to contract' (VTC) to extend it for another year from August 2014 to August 2015. The expected value of this extension is likely in the order of $100 million. This continued extension, since the previous variation lasting until August 2014, enhances Galfar's stake and credibility in the awarded contract as the PDO's reliable contractor to deliver the much needed support to ensure that oil delivery and flows continue to provide the Sultanate with its main revenue stream.

Galfar has been carrying out this complex project in the northern regions of Oman involving several locations like Fahud, Qarn Alam, Yibal and Lekhwair and spanning an area greater than 200km by 200km and providing maintenance services in design, civil, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation works. The project's mammoth work involves supporting the oil production activities, with scope of work ranging from wellhead location preparation works to providing flow lines, pipelines and several such activities.

Dr Hans Erlings, CEO Galfar commented, "We value our relationship with the PDO and consider them as one of our most valued clients. Galfar will continue to engage itself in the safe delivery of projects with the oil and gas sector."

Hans further added, "The project requires a dedicated and efficient workforce for its operations and our highly trained professionals, including substantial number of Omani nationals, are the most dependable in order to carry out challenging responsibilities. We have handled many situations successfully all through. With almost 1,500 Omanis currently working on this project alone, Galfar's adherence to Omanisation policy remains firmly integrated in its unequivocal commitment to hire Omani cadres. Today, our team Galfar is ready to accept challenging projects especially in the oil and gas sector."

Galfar has proven capabilities in contract execution to high safety standards, to established quality requirements ensuring timely delivery of projects. It is worth mentioning here that the Galfar oil and gas sector achieved 25 million man-hours without any lost time injury (LTI) in the month of June 2014.

Galfar remains as the largest contractor in Oman surpassing all its competitors by far. Galfar today employs over 23,000 workers with more than 7,000 different kinds of plants and equipment and has an impressive turnover, greater than $1 billion in the last one year. In Oman, Galfar is also the only contractor engaged in all the sectors of construction, such as oil and gas, roads-bridges & airports, civil & marine infrastructure and utilities & services. Hans also said, "Galfar has made a name as an "Omani Contractor" that can deliver world class projects anywhere and everywhere. We will continue to ensure that Brand Oman stands for reliability wherever we go."
