Muscat: In a charity initiative reflecting a commitment to supporting deserving families, Dar Al Atta'a has set up 100 boxes across Muscat to collect pieces of clothing for the needy during the holy month of Ramadan.
The boxes, emblazoned with the words 'Help make a difference', have been installed in Wattayah, Wadi Adai, Hamriyah, Ruwi, Darsait, Muttrah, Sidab, Wadi Kabir, Azaiba, Mawaleh, Amerat, Al Khuwair, New Khuwair, Bausher, Madinat Sultan Qaboos, Al Sarooj, Qurum, Madinat Al IIam, Ghala, Al Seeb, Al Khoudh and Mabelah.
Donors can put new or second-hand clothes in the boxes, a source at Dar Al Atta'a told the Times of Oman. The initiative allows donors to make a contribution at any time even beyond the working hours of the association.
A list of the things that can be donated as well as phone numbers that can be contacted in case the box is full is displayed on each box. According to the source, the association sorts out the old and new, the clean and the dirty and the torn and proper clothes.
"Whatever is good enough to be used is donated to the people in need, and whatever is not in good condition is sent for recycling and the money gained from recycling is utilised in the programmes running under Dar Al Atta'a to serve the less fortunate."
Mariam Al Zadjali, chairperson of Dar Al Atta'a, noted that the association is very happy about the project, given that it makes it easier for individuals to make a donation and help the association's activities.
