Muscat: Most automobile dealers across the Sultanate are witnessing a large number of buyers who are looking to purchase new vehicles during this holy month of Ramadan.

According to sales personnel employed at various auto dealers across the Sultanate, sales of vehicles hit the highest during Ramadan every year compared to other months. This can be attributed to special offers available only during this holy month.

Ahmed Al Kalbani, a sales manager with an auto dealer in Oman, told the Times of Oman, that most of the buyers who were interested in purchasing new vehicles during Ramadan were young Omanis. He added that the demand for new vehicles usually continued until the last day of Ramadan, as special offers provided by the auto dealers for the holy month.

Buying a new vehicle during Ramadan has become a tradition not only due to the attractive offers provided by dealers, but also because buying a car prior to Eid is considered good omen, bringing happiness and good luck to the family.

Ahmed Al Siyabi, a resident of Barka, told the Times of Oman, that he had purchased a new vehicle last week, because the auto dealer had given him a good package deal, which included an attractive offer as well as gifts.

But another resident, Bader Al Marbooyi, said that he preferred to purchase a used vehicle during Ramadan, because unjustified hikes in vehicle prices every year had made buying a new vehicle unaffordable. "It has become a fashion to buy a new vehicle during Ramadan. But only families who can afford a new vehicle can follow this trend. For those with insufficient salaries, buying a new vehicle will only increase their financial burden," said Al Marbooyi.
