Bakri inks 23 pacts for training Omani youths



Muscat: Minister of Manpower Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Bakri signed at the Ministry's General Diwan on Sunday, 23 agreements for training 533 Omanis at a cost of OMR1,499,190.

The agreements, which come as part of training plans coupled with employment programme, would cover many crafts, administrative and technical professions, in addition to operating vehicles, heavy equipment, cashier and others.

A total of 196 citizens would be trained in desk jobs (salesmen and cashiers) while 296  citizens will be joining technical fields. These include driving and operating heavy equipment, mechanical maintenance, fixing industrial equipment, welding works, electrical extensions, vehicle mechanics, cooling and air conditioning, engine operator and vocational HSE officer.

Forty-one citizens would join the craft field, namely cooking, reception, waiters and hotel clerk.
Dr Muna bint Salim Al Jardaniyah, undersecretary at the Ministry of Manpower for Technical Education and Vocational Training, said that the 23 agreements involve training coupled with employment.

51 agreements
A total of 533 trainees will be covered under these agreements. More than 51 such agreements have been signed since January 2014 till date.

The agreements have so far covered more than 1,700 trainees in different jobs in the private sector. She hoped that more agreement would be signed in the future to attract more jobseekers.

She added that an agreement has been signed for the construction of an integrated building for the College of Technology in Ibri. The project includes classrooms, administrative offices and computer labs, in addition to student accommodation.

"The engineering building at the College of Technology in Ibri has been completed recently and is now ready to receive engineering students who are about to complete the diploma programme," she said.
