Muscat: In a sign of the growing awareness among city consumers about their rights, more than 3,100 complaints were received by the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) this year.
Waleed bin Ali Al Rawahi, director of the directorate of complaints, said that PACP received 3,192 consumer complaints between January and June this year. The authority was making all efforts to ensure that consumers are able to exercise their rights and fair practices are followed in society.
Most of the complaints were investigated and solved. Some were forwarded to the Public Prosecution by following necessary legal procedures in this regard, he added.
Giving details about the nature of complaints, Al Rawahi said that most complaints were regarding cars. During this period, the authority received 400 complaints regarding cars and related services, 256 complaints about repair issues, nine about spare parts, and 54 about tyres.
Besides, there were 200 complaints related to the telephone sector, 161 about tenders and construction materials, 118 about aluminium, iron and carpentry, 84 about helping hands, 62 about furnishing showrooms, 54 about travel and tourism sector. Al Rawahi also said that the directorate solved 1,925 complaints while 164 were forwarded for trial.
