Muscat: A Ministry of Higher Education professor, Debashis Chakrabarti, who is head of the department of communication studies, has been invited to deliver a key-note address at an international conference in Singapore.
Chakrabarti will be delivering a lecture on 'Dynamics of new media and technology in catalysing cultural and political change' at the Singapore International Conference on Social Sciences and Business which will be held in January next year.
A noted media scholar and researcher, Debashis Chakrabarti has been teaching at the College of Applied Sciences in Sur since 2006.
He was a professor of mass communication and dean at the School of Information Sciences in Assam University, a central university in India, between 2004 and 2006.
He has been recognised internationally as a communication programme leader as he chaired the department of mass communication at the University of Asmara, Eritrea.
Prior to that, he also chaired the department of mass communication at the Aligarh Muslim University and was awarded a fellowship by the UK for pursuing his post-doctoral research on 'Analysing the Trends of Coverage in the BBC on Terrorism'.
Chakrabarti believes that the advent of digital technology with a switch from analogue to digital signals, combined with the web network and satellite transmission has triggered a communication revolution.
