Indian School Ghubra students impress model UN conference

Muscat: A group of 31 students from Indian School Ghubra (ISG) participated in the Montessori Model United Nation held in Geneva, Switzerland recently.

The Montessori Model United Nation Conference gives students an opportunity to think from the perspective of future leaders and encourages them to negotiate, debate and offer solutions to the world's most pressing problems. The MMUN Conference, held each year, transforms students as young as ten-years -old into global citizens by helping them tread on the road to peace education in order to make the world a better place. The students of ISG have been attending the MMUN since 2012.

The opening ceremony at the Palais des Nations, Geneva was inaugurated by the MMUN Executive Director, Judith Cunningham. Indian School Ghubra said it was proud of Aamir Tufail Ahmad, who was chosen as the rapporteur of the Security Council.

His incredible speech won great acclamation and praise.

The students of ISG were appreciated for their debating skills and for their ability to critically think on the resolutions they brought.

At the closing ceremony, presided over by Steffen Kongstad – Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, ISG delegates read out their resolutions in the General Assembly.

These young leaders have now been invited to host the MMUN Conference in Muscat.

After the programme, the student delegates were taken on a Unesco conducted tour to Germany, Austria and different parts of Switzerland.
