Oman Under-16 cricket team to play two matches in Sri Lanka

Muscat: Oman under-16 cricket team will leave for Sri Lanka tomorrow for a brief training camp ahead of their participation in the ACC Under-16 Premier tournament in Malaysia.

According to a press release issued by the Oman Cricket (OC) on Tuesday, the team will also play two practice matches against leading schools teams during their stay in Sri Lanka.

They will play Royal College on August 9 at the Royal College grounds in Colombo and then take on Isipathana College at the BRC grounds in Colombo on August 11 before heading to Malaysia the following day.

According to a Oman Cricket statement, all-rounder Wasim Ali has been appointed captain by the selection committee headed by Syed Anwar Ahsan to compete in the ACC Under-16 Premier tournament to be held in Kuala Lumpur from August 14 to 20. Debutant Omani player Ahmed Mohamed Moosa Al Bulushi will be his deputy.

In addition to vice-captain Ahmed thre are five Omani players in the team and they are Muhannad Said Haidar Al Baluhsi, Ziyad Tariq Mohamed Al Baluhsi, Suhail Hakim Pashambeh Al Balushi, Zuhair Maula Bakhsh Al Balushi and Maher Ghulam Mohamad Yousuf all debutants.

The other members include experienced Hemil Maheshkumar Ganatra and debutants Paritosh Hitesh Kumar Bhatt, Ivan Joseph Manjila, Indunil Udara Palihawadana, Ubaid Ullah, Sanat Kumar Sasikumar and Mayukh Misra.  

The four reserves are Varun Anand, Niraj Dipak Asher, Brijesh Jitesh Gandhi and  Rohan Solomon Koshy.

The team will be managed by Oman Cricket board member Dad Mohammed Al Balushi.

The coaches who have been training the team since the end of April are Desmond Berhardt, assisted by Parviz Abdul Qadir Al Balushi.

Both of them will travel along with Dr. M.V. Manjunath who has also been attending the training camp and will accompany the team as trainer.

Oman will clash with Singapore in their first match of the 40-over-a-side tournament on August 14, followed a game against hosts Malaysia on August 15.

A rest day will followed by games against Nepal on August 17 and Thailand on August 18. The last match slated for August 20 will be against Bahrain.
