Accidents, deaths dropped in Oman this year during Eid holidays

Seven Omanis killed in Eid road tragedy
Much to the relief of people, road accidents dipped during Eid Al Fitr holiday this year when compared to the last two years, a senior official of the Royal Oman Police (ROP) told the Times of Oman.
The official said that road accidents declined by six per cent and casualties by 10 per cent when compared with the last year.
Road accidents claimed 34 lives during holiday this year while 36 died in 2013 and 61 in 2012. The main reason for the decline was massive traffic awareness and patrolling programme launched by the authorities.
Overspeeding and overtaking from wrong side were the major causes of accidents during the Eid holiday, added the official.
The worst road crash claimed the lives of seven nationals in a head-on collision between two cars in the wilayat of Haima on June 24.
The official said six mobile police stations along with an air ambulance and civil defence teams have been deployed along the Adam-Salalah stretch for the safety of tourists heading to Salalah.
"A few minor road accidents have taken place in Salalah but no casualties have been reported so far, thanks to the efforts of community members and increased traffic safety measures of the ROP," said the official.
Meanwhile, hundreds of vehicles have been crossing the Omani borders heading towards Salalah to enjoy its cool weather and lush green beauty.
