Muscat: Two GCC nationals were arrested by the Royal Oman Police at Thumrait in the Dhofar government for possessing unlicensed weapons.
The two accused were charged at the Thumrait police station. They were intercepted at a check point on the road between Mazyoona and Thumrait, near Yemen. They were found possessing a Kalashinkov, 10 pistols, hundreds of bullets, a monitoring camera and a detonator. Both were sent to the Public Prosecution for further investigation and trial.
Similarly, two people were arrested for possessing unlicensed weapons and trying to sell them in the Dhofar governorate.
The two accused were arrested while they were trying to finalise a deal for selling the weapons.
A total of 25 pistols and bullets were recovered from the possession of the accused.
443 infiltrators arrested
The Royal Oman Police (ROP), in collaboration with other military and security departments, arrested 443 infiltrators of different nationalities last July in a number of wilayats for having entered the Sultanate illegally.
The ROP also deported 432 infiltrators after following all necessary legal procedures, in coordination with their respective embassies.
