Muscat: Air traffic movement at the Muscat International Airport witnessed an increase in the first quarter of 2014 as the total number of flights and passengers registered a marked increase.
While the number of flights rose by 1.3 per cent to 40,204 by the end of June 2014, compared to 39,695 flights during the same period last year, the 4,430,676 passengers who passed through the airport in the first half of 2014 accounted for a 7.5 per cent increase, compared to 4,122,548 passengers during the same period last year.
The total number of international flights at Muscat International Airport was 35,510 in the first six months of 2014, compared to 35,206 flights registered during the same period in 2013, a growth of 0.9 per cent.
A recently published air traffic report issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) revealed that the total number of passengers on international flights passing through Muscat International Airport - including arrivals, departures and transit passengers - increased by 7.5 per cent, to 4,040,128 passengers, compared to 3,758,421 passengers over the same period last year. Of these, 2,004,476 were classified as arriving passengers, 2,018,544 as departing passengers and 17,108 were transit passengers.
During the same period, the total number of domestic flights through Muscat international Airport until the end of June touched 4,694, compared with 4,489 over the same period last year, representing a 4.6 per cent growth.
