.Open Minds forum: Global icons excited to address Omani youths

Muscat: Industry leaders, thought gurus and extraordinary minds from across the world have expressed joy at the opportunity to synergise, motivate and educate (SME) young Omani entrepreneurs and the corporate sector at the upcoming .Open Minds forum.

They are also happy for a chance to discover "the beautiful country, Oman."

Featuring ten leading personalities from diverse industries, the two day thought-leadership forum .Open Minds is all set to engage attendees through key-note speeches, interactive discussions and networking sessions.

The two-day forum to be held on September 3 and 4 at the Oman Auditorium of Al Bustan Palace Hotel (a Ritz Carlton Hotel) has generated a lot of interest in the community.

Black & White is the organisers of the forum and MPPH is the presenter. Bank Muscat, Nawras, AVOD (Areej Vegetable Oils and Derivatives), Ministry of Tourism, OAMC (Oman Airports Management Company), W J Towell Ajyal Mustaqbal, National Business Centre are the strategic partners. Oman Air is the official airline.

The Times of Oman and Al Shabiba are the official newspapers. Merge & Al Wisal are the official radio partners.

The youth of Oman will be stimulated when they will meet with extraordinary minds such as entrepreneur, Sir Richard Branson; award-winning author, Lord Jeffrey Archer; entrepreneur humanitarian, HRH Basmah bint Saud Al Saud, mountaineer Tom Whittaker; entrepreneur Sahar Hashemi; Satellady Candace Johnson and speed painter Brad Blaze; Lonely Planet founder Tony Wheeler and beat boxer Tom Thum.

Some of the star participants at the forum spoke to the Times of Oman.

Conveying happiness over his visit to Oman, renowned author Jeffrey Archer said, "I am very much looking forward to visiting the country for the first time. I have heard so much about it."

Offering words of encouragement to entrepreneurs, Archer said, "For anyone who is on the verge of starting something new, here's a piece of advice: allow yourself the time to give it to your full attention and persevere."

Urging the youth to make use of the opportunity, Candace Johnson, who has been dubbed 'one of the 50 most powerful businesswomen in Europe,' said, "I think Omani entrepreneurs – women and men – have a unique opportunity to do something positive for their country, their region and the world."

The satellite industry pioneer said, "If you believe that you have a solution to any of the problems that the world faces, go ahead and do it."

Omani scholar Sheikh Khalfan El Esry is positive the youth of the country will make a difference.

"The last few years have sown the seeds of various employment opportunities, but eventually our youth and young entrepreneurs will be the best in the region and SMEs will flourish and make a mark in society, taking the country forward," El Esry said.

Reassuring the youth, Sahar Hashemi, who has penned a bestselling book on entrepreneurship, said,

"What makes entrepreneurs special, anywhere in the world, is the journey they undertake. They are not special before the journey – the journey brings it out!"

Though this will be not be his first visit to Oman for Lonely Planet founder Tony Wheeler, he is waiting to see the country.

"This will be my fourth visit to Oman! But, the first visit in 2005 was the most extensive -the country has a lot of forts, lot of wadis and offers a fair amount of walking."

Organisers hope that it will be a unique dialogue platform of global level which will set off a revolution of ideas, innovation and inspiration among budding Omani entrepreneurs.

"Be sure to be enthused after meeting extraordinary minds that will touch upon most important issues in the youth space," the organisers said.

Get set to attend an event that will be packed with "experience, knowledge, thoughts, positivity, inspiration, attitude, entertainment and presentation."
