Muscat: The Sultanate's Under-16 team, who left for Bankok on Friday to take part in the AFC Under-16 Championship, started training in right earnest under the watchful eyes of coach Yacoob Al Sabahi on Saturday.
According to information received from the Oman Football Association (OFA), the Oman junior boys underwent their first training session just hours after reaching the Thai capital.
The AFC Under-16 Championship is scheduled to be organised in Thailand from September 6 to 20.
The Omani delegation is headed by OFA board member Mohammed bin Salim Al Shihhi and the team
are accompanied by assistant coach Hilal Al Oufi, Abdulhadi Al Hajri, goalkeerpers trainer Shakir bin
Mohammed Al Balushi, team manager Younis Al Shibli, physio Mohammed Al Harthy and media manager Hamdan Al Maani.
Prior to yesterday's training session, Oman delegation head Mohammed Al Shihhi gave a pep talk to the team.
During his interaction with the boys, he urged them to give their best for the team while enjoying their game as well as the opportunity to represent the Sultanate at such an prestigious tournament.
The 23-member Sultanate's team comprises three goalkeepers in Ammar Al Rasheedi, Sultan Hamad Al Raqadi and Bashar Al Noufli.
The deffenders are Salah Al Qasmi, Dakheel Al Yahmadi, Mohammed Al Mukhaini, Abdulhadi Al Hajri, Salim Al Harthy, Faisal Al Harthy, Loay Al Hadeedi and Mohammed Al Obaidani.
The coach selected eight midfielders in Zahir Al Agbari, Ali Al Hinai, Ahmed Al Riyami, Nasser Al Noumani, Badr Al Jabri, Faisal Al Ashoor, Imran Al Hidi and Ahmed Al Araimi.
The four forwards chosen for the Thailand task are Salah Al Yahyaeei, Yazid Al Siyabi, Al Qasim Al Abdulsalam and Wadah Ba Omar.
Oman, who are placed in Group A, are scheduled to begin their campaign against fancied and tough opponents South Korea on September 6.
The group also comprises hosts Thailand and Malaysia.
Oman will play their second match against Thailand on September 8 and take on Malaysia on September 10.
The quarterfinals and semifinals are scheduled for September 14 and 15 respectively while the final is slated for September 20.
The top four from the tournament will qualify for the Fifa Under-17 World Cup.
