Muscat: The total number of local and international Salalah Khareef season visitors recorded from June 21 to August 30 this year stood at 415,209, compared to 399,747 visitors during the same period in 2013, representing an increase of 3.9 per cent, the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) has reported.
The majority of Khareef Salalah visitors were Omanis, representing 76.2 per cent of total visitor numbers, while other GCC citizens represented 16.1 per cent of the total tourist count.
Break-up of visitors
Giving a break-up of the visitor figures geographically, the NCSI statistics showed that the total number of GCC visitors (including Omanis) increased over the stated period this year by 3.9 per cent with 383,434, compared with 369,139 over the same period in 2013.
Meanwhile, the total number of visitors from other Arab non-GCC countries recorded a significant increase of 71.5 per cent with 7,129 visitors as compared with 4,157 recorded over the same period last year. On the other hand, the total number of visitors from Asian countries decreased by 8.9 per cent from 24,178 in 2013 to 22,021 this year. However, the total number of Khareef Salalah 2014 visitors from European countries increased by 2.1 per cent recording 1,634 visitors in 2014 as compared with 1,600 last year.
Also, the total number of visitors from the American continent increased by 33 per cent with 556 this year compared with 418 in 2013, while the total number of visitors from African countries decreased by 16.6 per cent from 145 in 2013 to 121 in the same period this year. The number of visitors from Oceania increased by 20.2 per cent with 131 visitors compared with 109 visitors over the same period last year.
The NCSI statistics revealed that 115,102 visitors flew to Salalah, comprising 99,695 on domestic flights and 15,407 on international flights, while the total number of visitors who came by road stood at 300,107.
