Six-wicket victory for Excellent Electricals

Muscat: Excellent Electricals defeated Times of Oman B by 6 wickets to earn a place in the semifinals of the Khimji Ramdas-sponsored Junior Cup T20 tournament in a match played during the weekend at Municipality Ground No.2 at Al Amerat.

Batting first, Times of Oman B was bowled out for 141 runs off 19.3 overs, with a top score of 54 from opener Suresh Subramaniam. The other batsman to make a useful contribution was Vinod Shankar, 27. Usman Siddique was the top bowler with figures of 4 for 20 off 3.3 overs, with support from Mohammed Muradjan and Suseendran, who picked up 2 wickets each, conceding 22 and 34 runs, respectively, off 4 overs each.

Excellent Electricals, aided by an 85-run partnership between Suseendran, 81 N.O., and Joshi Benedict, 29, responded with 142 for 4 off 18.3 overs. Mohammed Irshad picked up 2 wickets, for 24 runs off 4 overs.

Brief scores: Times of Oman – 141 All Out off 19.3 overs (Suresh Subramaniam 54 and Vinod Shankar 27; Usman Siddique 4/20, Mohammed Haneef Muradjan 2/22 and Suseendran 2/34) lost to Excellent Electricals – 142 for the loss of 4 wickets off 18.3 overs (Suseendran 81 N.O. and Joshi Benedict 29; Mohammed Umair Irshad 2/24).

Al Hashim Projects win
In an afternoon, at the same venue, in another Khimji Ramdas-sponsored Junior Cup T20 quarterfinal match, Al Hashim Projects recorded a thrilling 2-run win against Sarco to seal a place in the semifinals.

Electing to bat, Al Hashim Projects was tottering at 64 for 7 off 11 overs with Ghulam Butt chipping in with 26. Jerrin George, coming in at the fall of the seventh wicket, scored 31 and, together with Shaheer Najeeb, 30, put together 52 runs for the eighth wicket to help push the score to 128 off 18.2 overs.

Shakkir Puzhakkal bowled a tight line to end with 3 for 25, whilst Murtaza Haider Shah bagged 2 wickets, conceding 17 runs, off 4 overs each.
Set a target of 129 runs for a win and a place in the semifinals, Sarco struggled for runs and could only manage to score 126 for 7 at the end of its quota of 20 overs. Opening batsman Gireesha S. Thingalaya, 39, together with Vishwanath Bhaskar, 28, were involved in a valuable 63-run partnership for the third wicket, whilst Murtaza Haider Shah remained unbeaten on 21. Abdul Rauf, Prajith Prabha, and Suraj Rao picked up 2 wickets each, conceding 13, 20, and 20 runs, respectively.

ISC Urdu Wing win
ISC Urdu Wing defeated Al Rehwan by 51 runs to qualify for the Khimji Ramdas-sponsored Junior Cup T20 knock-out tournament semifinals in a match played in the morning session during the weekend at the adjoining Ground No.3 at Al Amerat.

Electing to bat, ISC Urdu Wing was well placed, with openers Shaikh Mohammed Shameel, 57, and Chetan Sharma, 23, putting on 76 runs for the first wicket off 7.2 overs. Faizan Al Dawnak, coming two down, chipped in with 44 to help ISC Urdu Wing pile up 185 runs for the loss of 6 wickets at the end of the 20th over. M. Gopi was the pick of the bowlers, ending with figures of 3 for 24 runs, and Mohammed Ali claimed 2 for 43 runs, off 4 overs each.

Requiring 186 runs to win and get a place in the semifinals, Al Rehwan was restricted to 134 for the loss of 9 wickets off the 20 allotted overs, with Aboo P.C. making a brilliant 54. None of the other batsmen made any worthwhile contributions. Faizan Al Dawnak and Shadab Kazi claimed 2 wickets each, conceding 15 and 23 runs, respectively, off 4 overs each.

Brief scores: ISC Urdu Wing – 185 for the loss of 6 wickets off 20 overs (Shaikh Mohammed Shameel 57, Faizan Al Dawnak 44, and Chetan Sharma 23; M. Gopi 3/24 and Mohammed Ali 2/43) beat Al Rehwan – 134 for the loss of 9 wickets off 20 overs (Aboo P.C. 54; Faizan Al Dawnak 2/15 and Shadab Kazi 2/23).

Assarain B win

A magnificent 152-run unbroken opening partnership between Mohammed Naseem, 89 Not Out, and skipper Ranjith Nair, remaining unbeaten on 59, helped Assarain B register a comprehensive 10-wicket victory against Muscat Electronics to claim a spot in the semifinals of the Khimji Ramdas-sponsored Junior Cup T20 knock-out tournament. The match was played during the afternoon session at the same venue.

Deciding to bat, Muscat Electronics was well placed, with openers C.V. Vijeesh, 41, and skipper Sanoj K. Abdu, 38, involved in an opening partnership of 74 runs off 7.1 overs. With the duo's exit in quick succession, the rest of the batting collapsed, and the team was bowled out for 149 off 19.5 overs. The bowlers to cause the disaster were skipper Ranjith Nair, 3 for 21; Hafiz Irfan, 2 for 18; G.P. Anoop, 2 for 28; and Mohammed Raniz, 2 for 31.
Requiring 150 for a win, Assarain B raced to 152 with no losses and 4.3 overs to spare.

The Junior Cup semifinal matches scheduled for March 8 at the Municipality Grounds at Al Amerat are as follows: Morning – Al Hashim Projects v Excellent Electricals; Evening – ISC Urdu Wing v Assarain B.
