Muscat: Sheikh Ali bin Nasser Al Mahrouqi, secretary general of the Majlis Al Shura, has said that the Majlis will hold three consecutive sessions next week. The Majlis will host Dr Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidi, Minister of Commerce and Industry, in two consecutive sessions on Sunday, and Monday.
Sheikh Ali said that the Minister of Commerce and Industry would issue a statement covering several issues, the most notable of which would highlight commerce, industry and mining sectors. He would also discuss the Muscat Securities Market, the free zones, challenges and solutions, ways of enhancing competition and methods of combating monopolies and illicit trade.
After the minister's statement, the floor will be open for discussions between the minister and the members of the Majlis Al Shura regarding the contents of the statement and other related issues in the commerce, industry, and investment fields.
Sheikh Ali pointed out that the two sessions with the minister would be aired by the media. He added that the Majlis will later discuss several issues, including the two reports of the legislative and legal committee of Majlis Al Shura regarding the jurisdiction and functions of the planning, budget, and investment committee that Majlis Al Shura intends to establish in the future.
It will also discuss its study on the ownership of land. The session will also approve the draft agreement for the avoiding of double taxation and to prohibit income-tax evasion between the Sultanate's government and the government of Japan — a request that was referred by the Oman government to the Majlis Al Shura. This move comes in light of the recommendations of the economic and financial committee with regard to the draft agreement.
The Majlis will also discuss approving the draft agreement between the Sultanate and some countries that are members of the Indian Ocean Rim-Association for Regional Cooperation, referred to it by the Oman government, regarding the permanent headquarters of a fish-support unit.
