Fire fighters gear up for challenges

Muscat:
The first edition of the Fire Safety Technology Forum Oman was launched with a call to implement and adhere to high fire-safety standards and policies.
In addition to highlighting current techniques and technologies to overcome fire-related disasters, the forum discussed new technologies and techniques to combat fire-safety disasters.
The event, which opened under the patronage of Major General Abdullah Ali Hamad Al-Harthy, chairman of the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance, was attended by more than 20 national and international experts.
Brig Mubarak Juma Al Ghailani, director-general of the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance, said, "This forum, organised by the International Quality and Productivity Centre (IQPC) and Global Exhibition & Conferences (GEC), will discuss the latest technologies and global strategies in the field of fire-fighting and risk reduction, in addition to discussing effective training programmes to ensure an efficient response in emergency."
A case study 'Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster – Examining the disaster management strategy' by Mitsuo Yamamoto, counsellor to Battalion Division Chief–Fire-fighting Section of Tokyo Fire Department, Japan, was also presented. The presentation highlighted the various strategies and techniques followed by the Tokyo Fire Department to combat the nuclear plant fire disaster in the aftermath of a devastating earthquake in Japan.
