Muscat: Gulf Brands, part of Al Madina group's food and beverage outfit, is set to bring Wingstop, a US-based restaurant chain that serves buffalo-style chicken wings and other quality dishes, to the Sultanate.

"We have the master franchisees right for a whole of GCC, except the United Arab Emirates," said T. Thirubakaram, deputy general manager (Operations) of Gulf Brands.

Wingstop, which offers ten different flavours of chicken wings with fries and coke, has a large network of 520 restaurants in the United States, 120 outlets in Mexico and another 100 restaurants in Russia, noted Aarif Al Farsi, marketing manager of Gulf Brands.

Gulf Brands, which already operates Yogelato, Curry-in-Hurry and Waffle Planet at the Muscat Grand Mall food court, is planning to set up standalone Wingstop restaurants or open these outlets in a different mall.

"We will serve chicken boneless wings, boneless breast coated and marinated with ten different flavours of chicken," added Al Farsi.

Gulf Brands, a subsidiary of Al Madina Financial and Investment, started off its operation with Waffle Planet brand, the first franchise brought from Belgium. Waffle Planet serves a host of dishes, including hotdogs and coffees, with imported ingredients from Belgium.

Frozen yoghurt
Gulf Brands creates and promotes its own brands, as well as major global brands in selectively targetted markets.

The Yogelato restaurant at the foodcourt serves 16 flavours of frozen yoghurt and 36 flavours of Jaleto — an Italian ice-cream that contains less fat.

"It is a healthy option and we follow a self-serving concept. The guest can select frozen yoghurt and add toppings with dry fruit or fresh fruit and pay according to the weight," noted Al Farsi.

Curry-in-Hurry serves North Indian dishes like biriyanis, tikkas, kebabs, chat items and lassies and this outlet operates on a buffet concept, mainly caters to those shoppers who wants a meal in a hurry.

"We are going to start Curry-in-Hurry 'take away' restaurants very soon in areas like Al Khoud and Madina Qaboos," Thirubakaram noted, adding; "We are getting an encouraging response in all our three branded restaurants — Curry-in-Hurry, Yogelato and Waffle Planet.

In the next five years, we will have 10 outlets in each of our restaurant brands in Muscat. Our major focus is Muscat city. However, we are also planning to open in Sohar and Salalah."

Al Farsi said the company is now thinking of taking these brands to neighbouring GCC countries. "We have received a lot of enquiries from neighbouring countries. By the end of this year or early next year, we will open our Yogelato restaurant in Qatar and Kuwait," added Thirubakaram.
