Drug dealers’ syndicate busted; auto thieves held

The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has arrested five members of a gang involved in selling drugs in the Governorate of Muscat.

The arrests followed a tip that an international gang was involved in drug trafficking, said an official from the Public Department of Anti-Drugs and Narcotics. Following investigation, the ROP arrested one of the gang members, who confessed to the crime and gave information about other gang members involved.

Following the arrests, ROP officers seized more than two kilos of hashish and 420 capsules of heroin.

The ROP has urged the public to help apprehend drug dealers by contacting police at emergency phone 9999 or 1444.

Vehicle thefts
Lieutenant Colonel Abdu Rahman Al Hinai of the Criminal and Criminal Investigation Department at the Royal Oman Police, has said that the authorities have arrested seven suspects and charged them with vehicle thefts that occurred some months ago in Muscat.

Lt Col Al Hinai pointed out that the accused were involved in three vehicle thefts, as well as damaging vehicles and stealing valuables from those vehicles. Al Hinai added that some of the suspects are being held in the Central Samayl Prison for their involvement in other crimes, as well as for consuming illegal drugs.

Traffic week
Brigadier Mohammed bin Awad Al Rawas, the director of traffic at the Royal Oman Police (ROP), last week announced the theme of Gulf Traffic Week 2013, 'Our Goal is Your Safety', by focusing on spreading the message to curb road accidents. Brig Al Rawas said 'Our Goal is Your Safety' is a translation of the message from the traffic departments in the GCC countries to curb accidents.

Colonel Ahmed Al Rawahi, the assistant director of traffic at the Royal Oman Police, said the Traffic Week includes a number of events held throughout the Sultanate. During Traffic Week the General Directorate of Traffic 200 driving instructors will graduate after completion of training. At the Traffic Safety Institute.
