Muscat: A 12-year-old student from Indian School Muscat (ISM) escaped from the clutches of her kidnappers, her parents said. "Her bravery and presence of mind saved her life," the parents of the seventh grade student told Times of Oman.
The girl was kidnapped in broad daylight near the back gate of her school while she was waiting for her father.
"She was waiting for me after completing her examination at around 10am near the school. She was looking for my car and walking along the side of the school wall. Suddenly, she felt someone grabbing her by the shoulder and pushing her into an empty bus used for ferrying children to and from school," the girl's father said.
Even though the girl resisted their attempts, the men were able to pull her into the bus. One man, who was waiting for her to get in, then started the bus and shut the door. She was threatened by them and told to keep silent.
"While moving in the bus, she could notice passing across Indian School, Wadi Kabir (ISWK). After a few minutes, the bus stopped at a dead end, parallel to the door of a house. The bus door was then opened and the girl was told to move into the house. As the second man sat at the driver's seat, the student alighted from the bus and began running. She heard the men following her but, being a good runner, she ran a good distance and hid herself to avoid them. Fortunately, she ran enough distance to escape from their clutches," the father added.
Helping hand
After covering some distance, the girl found some cars and asked for a lift. A local man gave her a lift and then dropped her midway. Even though she waited for a few minutes, she sensed danger and ran again till she reached the service road of Wadi Kabir, which runs in front of ISWK.
"There, she frantically waved to passing cars. A trainer's car finally stopped and took her in. He called and handed her over to us," the father added, while thanking the national who helped his daughter.
Later, with the help of the school authorities, a complaint was lodged. The police have arrested the abductors. "On Tuesday, one culprit was arrested, while the second one was arrested on Wednesday," the father added.
