Crime cases up by 28%

Muscat: The Public Prosecution dealt with 34,480 cases in 2012, compared to 26,741 in 2011, an increase of 28 per cent, according to a press statement issued.

The Muscat Governorate recorded the highest number of cases totalling 1,153 in 2012.
The Public Prosecution administration in the wilayat of Seeb topped other administrations nationwide in the number of cases filed — with 2,637 cases in 2012. A Public Prosecution official said that drug trafficking and abuse topped the list of offences  with most of the cases  filed  in the Muscat governorate.

More than 720 cases of drug trafficking had been filed this year, compared to 677 cases in 2011. Vehicle thefts, other thefts, prostitution, embezzlement, bounced cheques and sexual abuse cases were also dealt by the Public Prosecution.
