Muscat: Defending champions Dhofar will take on Al Nahda, while Suwaiq will face Aroubah in the semi-finals of His Majesty's Cup, which will be played next month. The draw was held at the Oman Football Association (OFA) headquarters in Seeb Sports Complex, yesterday.
Prestigious title Al Aroubah, who last won the prestigious title in 2009, will take on Suwaiq on April 16 at Seeb Sports Complex, while eight-time champion Dhofar will take on Al Nahda on April 17 at Sohar Sports Complex.
The away matches will be played from May 4–5 in Seeb and Sohar. Speaking to the media after presiding over the draw, Ahmed Al Habsi, tournament director and board member of OFA, said the matches looked evenly poised. "You cannot say it's going to be a tough clash. Of course, they are the best teams in the competition, so it will be interesting to see who will reach the final," he stated.
Dr Saeed Ahmed Al Shahri, secretary-general of Dhofar Club, claimed his team would retain the title.
"We are not worried about our opposition," Al Shahri asserted. "Our team is strong, and we hope to win this match. We have played really well in the League as well as in this tournament, so we are confident of defending the title once again," he said.
Salam Al Araimi, a member of Al Aroubah Club, also expressed confidence in his team. "We won the HM Cup in 2011, and we have had a good season. We are confident of winning it again," he declared.
