Muscat: In a shift from the past, all the Indian schools in the Sultanate are set to organise a draw for admissions from KG I to Std IX for the academic session 2013-2014. The draw will be held in the presence of school principals and the management committees of the schools, the results of which will be announced on March 18.
The results of the draw will be conveyed to successful candidates through SMS, emails and on the notice board of schools. For people who could not apply for admissions for KG I to Std XII during registration on January 28, 2013, they will get another opportunity on April 17, 2013, subject to the availability of seats.
Effort are being made to augment the capacity of existing schools but it is subject to the approval from the Ministry of Education. In view of the current needs, the existing afternoon shifts in the schools will continue for some more time. In schools where additional capacities are being created, classes are likely to commence at a later date.
Keeping in view the rising number of expatriates, the Board of Directors have decided to start construction of a new school which will be ready by April, 2014. Even this year, the number of applicants is much more than the seats available in the schools.

Indian schools plan to hold their random draw to choose admissions in Indian schools for the academic year 2013 – 2014. The results of the random draw for admissions, to be held in the presence of all principals and representatives of school management committees, will be announced on March 18, said officials.
According to a press statement from the Board of Directors' office, "The number of applications received far exceeds the number of seats available this year." The statement went on to say there has been a significant amount of interest in admissions in Indian schools for the academic year 2013–2014.
"A large number of applications have been received by the central system for admissions. As usual, the rush for KG I to Grade II is more than in other classes," the statement read. The statement also noted that, regarding the growing number of Indian expatriates in Oman, particularly in the capital region, the Board of Directors has begun construction of another school.
"An announcement to this effect will be made soon. The proposed school would be starting only in April 2014," it said. The press statement explained that every effort has been made to increase the capacity in existing schools and efforts are also underway to create additional space for students.
"But final availability will be subject to approvals from the Ministry," the statement added.
Regarding the results of the random draw, the statement said, "The draw will be based on choices given and the number of seats available for each class in each school. The draw will be held for classes KG I to Std IX. For admissions in classes X to XII, as per policy and rules, schools will handle such cases directly. Each school will have an admission cell and an in-charge who will answer all queries."
The results of the draw will be announced by SMS, e-mails, the school website and notice boards in schools. Following the draw, parents are required to admit their children in respective schools by paying their fee within a stipulated period and, if admission is not taken during this period, the admission will stand cancelled and the seat will be re-allotted to waitlisted applicants.
"Since there are going to be a good number of applicants who may not be getting admission in the first draw, for them another window would be provided to apply for the options available in additional capacities which are being generated. This would be strictly subject to approvals from the concerned Ministry. The dates of the opening of the windows will be announced soon through announcements posted on the website. The commencement of classes in facilities where additional capacities are being generated are likely to start later.
A detailed circular regarding the admission process with firm dates will be posted on the website a day before the random draw," the press release added. For parents who have not been able to apply for admission before the closing of registration on January 28 2013, the site will be tentatively opened on April 17, 2013 for KG I to std XII. The admissions will be subject to availability of seats.
The press release further confirmed that "existing afternoon shift classes would continue for some time, due to the inescapable need and various other aspects of these classes, which are being considered. Parents are requested to keep track of developments by following circulars posted on website(www.indianschoolsoman.com) from time to time," the release advised.
