Muscat: The Indian School Board of Directors (BoD) has decided to add double  shifts at three more schools to accommodate the influx of students in the upcoming academic year, the BoD chairman said.

"At present, Indian School Muscat and Indian School Wadi Kabir have two shift systems in place (morning and afternoon). Now, we are planning to implement this system at Indian School Darsait, Indian School Mabelah, and Indian School Ibra. In this way, we will be able to provide admissions for more newcomers to a certain extent," Tony George Alexander, the chairman of BoD, told Times of Oman.

The Indian schools' draw results for admissions from KG I to Std IX for the academic session 2013–2014 will be announced on tomorrow.

According to the chairman, even though the number of applications is more or less the same compared with the previous year, the decision to add more shifts will reduce the
admission pressure.

"For example, when students from five classes of Class X leave after the completion of their studies, students from 10 classes are graduating from the lower class and competing for the limited seats available in Class X," the chairman added.

Ibra school building
Responding to the Ibra school building issue, the chairman pointed out that the BoD is on the look-out for a new building and land for the school.

"The building owners are demanding the return of the building in which the kindergarten operates. So far, no deadline has been set. But considering this as an emergency situation, we are looking at several options to tackle the crisis ," he noted.

Meanwhile, the Indian School Muscat school-management committee has formed a task force that includes parents to look into the transport issues of schoolchildren.

"A task force has been formed to look into the grievances raised by the parents. The committee will keep tabs on the transport service and the safety of the schoolchildren. In addition, they are also planning a car-pooling system," the chairman remarked.
