Muscat: The Wave, Muscat, yesterday signed an agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MoAF) to develop a programme of projects that will provide community service to the fishing communities of Seeb and Bausher.

The programme's main aim is to empower the long-established fishing community in Muscat—an industry that is an integral part of the city's heritage. By joining hands with MoAF, The Wave, Muscat, has committed itself to supporting this industry and promoting marine life through the use of modern scientific techniques.

The programme will provide direct assistance to the fishermen of Seeb and Bausher by giving them vital resources that will allow them to build a more sustainable community. In three major segments, the project will provide community support, environmental education, and business training to the community.

The community-support project will provide quality fishing equipment and tools to keep the fishermen up to date with the latest technological advances in the fishing industry to aid their work.

In supporting the community, funding from The Wave, Muscat, and MoAF will also be allocated to building better facilities for fishermen. This project will be implemented by the ministry and will be fully financed by the company.

The environmental project will be executed in co-operation with partner organisations specialising in the creation of artificial reefs. Reef balls—environmentally friendly, spherical concrete structures designed to withstand the force of the ocean—will be dropped onto the sea bed in carefully selected areas around Seeb and Bausher, where they will attract marine life.
