Muscat: Prince Charles will be arriving in the Sultanate today on a three-day visit during which he will meet with His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said. Prince Charles will be accompanied by Princess Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and a number of officials. They will be staying in Oman till March 19.
Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, along with a number of ministers and undersecretaries, will receive Prince Charles and his accompanying delegation upon their arrival. Prince Charles has made four official visits to Oman — in 1986, 1995, 1999, and 2003. However, this will be Princess Camilla's first official visit to Oman.
According to Prince Charles' official website, his engagements in Oman "will cover health and education issues, the support being given to young entrepreneurs by a specialist new-business 'incubator,' and a regional visit to see an ancient form of sustainable water irrigation."
The tour will help strengthening the United Kingdom's bilateral relations with Oman, which is a key partner in the region. The visits to the region are aimed at supporting British economic interests by highlighting the growing commercial links between British companies and their counterparts in Jordan, Qatar, and Oman, and by encouraging the development of an entrepreneurial culture in the private sector of these countries.
"Other themes of the tour will include military collaboration, opportunities for women in society, inter-faith dialogue, education, and environmental sustainability," a press release published on the website stated.
