Muscat: Petes registered an emphatic win against their college counterparts Joes, thanks to opening batsman Nairoze Makoon, who top scored with a quickfire 56, then grabbed 2 for 23 off 4 overs to help his team take a commanding lead.
The annual college alumni 20 over match was held at the InterContinental Hotel ground over the week end. Electing to field after winning the toss, Joes would have rued their decision when Petes' top order scored runs at will to help their side to post 149 for the loss of 5 wickets off their quota of 20 overs. The other batsmen to chip in with valuable contributions were Chesley Wijesinghe 41 and Jude Nilanka 22.
Joes in reply were bowled out for 128 thanks to a stubborn 58 from opening batsman Nuwan Rodrigo. Dilan Kurukulasuriya was the pick of the bowlers, ending with figures of 3 for 28 off 4 overs.

Former Sri Lankan Cricket Team captain Duleep Mendis (Oman's National Team Coach) was the chief guest, and he distributed the awards to the winners and runners up.
During the prize distribution ceremony, Nuwan Rodrigo (Joes) was adjudged the best batsman. The best bowler award went to Dilan Kurukulasurya (Petes). Jude Nalanka (Petes) was the best fielder, and the best all rounder trophy went to Nairoze Makoon (Petes).
On the sidelines of the men's event, a five-over-a-side match was held for the spouses and daughters of former students and guests who had attended the event. The match was won by the Joes for the second successive year. The best batter was Chandrika De Zilva (Joes), the best bowler was Eroshi Hettiarachchi (Petes), and the player of the match was Chandrika De Zilva (Joes).
