Muscat: The Sultanate has witnessed a dip in the number of road casualties as of March this year, compared with last year, Brigadier Eng. Mohammed bin Awad Al Rawas, Director-General Traffic at the ROP, said.
"This year, we have witnessed a nearly 15-per cent dip in the number of fatalities due to road accidents and a 6-per cent dip in injuries resulting from road accidents. From January to March this year, road accidents have claimed 147 lives," the official stated.
Responding to a question on providing temporary driving licences to fresh applicants, the official noted that the process is still underway, and the date of implementation would be announced soon.
The ROP has plans to provide temporary licences to fresh applicants for one year and to extend this period after assessing the performance of the applicants.
