Prince Charles, Princess Camilla set out on tour of Oman

Muscat: Prince Charles and his wife Princess Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, paid a visit to the historic fort of Nizwa in the Governorate of Dakhiliyah, accompanied by Dr. Ali bin Mas'oud bin Ali Al Sunaidi, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Zaher Al Hinai, Sultanate's ambassador to the UK and Jamie Bowden, UK ambassador to Oman. He was briefed about the history of the fort.

The Royal couple also visited the Royal Cavalry at Madinat Al Adiyat.  He was received by Brigadier Abdul Razaq bin Abdul Qadir Al Shahwarzi, Commander of the Royal Cavalry and a number of officials.

During the visit, an equestrian function was organised for the Royal couple. It included display of pure Arabian horses and beauty show of horses, in addition to cart horse shows with various impressive formations. The   display was accompanied by the Royal Guard of Oman (RGO) band.

The function was attended by members of the delegation accompanying Prince Charles and Princess Camilla and top Omani officials.

The Royal couple also paid a visit to the historic fort of Nizwa in the Governorate of  Dakhiliyah, accompanied by Dr Ali bin Mas'oud bin Ali Al Sunaidi, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Zaher Al Hinai, Sultanate's ambassador to the UK and Jamie Bowden, UK's ambassador to the Sultanate.

Upon his arrival at Nizwa fort, Prince Charles was received by Dr Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Hilal Al Sa'adi, Governor of Dakhiliyah and Sheikh Hamad bin Salim Al Aghbari, Wali of Nizwa. He was briefed on the history of the fort that reflects its ancient history. He toured the fort and viewed its architecture. He also viewed some of the Omani folklore arts and crafts inside the fort.

Later, the Prince Charles headed to the Niyabat of Birkat Al Mouz where he viewed the traditional irrigation system of the Sultanate, 'Aflaj' and visited Al Khatmeen Falaj.

Meanwhile, Princess Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall visited the National Diabetes and Endocrine Centre in the Wilayat of Bausher.  She was received by Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Obaid Al Sa'eedi, Minister of Health and a number of officials.

She toured various clinics and sections of the centre where she was briefed on goals of establishing the centre and its role in terms of rendering the specialised care for the diabetics and following-up the status of this disease in the Sultanate.

The National Diabetes and Endocrine Centre is located in Bausher Health Complex on an area of 4,480 square meters. The centre was established due to the need for a specialised centre equipped with the latest techniques to combat diabetes.

The centre was opened few weeks ago.  It consists of adult and children outpatient clinics, day-care suites, diagnosis laboratories, pharmacy, store and higher education centre.
