Muscat: Renshi G. Kumar, 4th Dan black belt; Karthik, Sensei 1st Dan black belt; and Ankit, brown belt 2, from Oman Isshinryu Karate Institute, won two gold medals and one silver at the recently concluded Karate International Tournament, held in Chennai.
More than 600 students from all over India and from Oman took part in the tournament, which was held at the Nandanam stadium in honour of Michael Calendar, Grandmaster from the United States, and Renshi Ramadas, 4th Dan Black belt from the United Kingdom.
Guest of Honour Thyiagarajan, a recognised official from the Indian government in the field of karate sports, was present at the opening ceremony.
Over the three days of the competition, Oman's participants displayed extraordinary skill, in performing karate techniques, and courage. The winners received their trophies from Grandmaster Michael Calendar.
In a similar tournament organised by the Shoton Karate Centre in Darsait last month, students from the Oman Isshinryu Karate Institute took part in the kata performance and won plenty of medals.
At the black-belt level kata performance for the seniors, Sensei V. Manoharan bagged the gold. Adil won gold in the junior category. In the 9-year-old category, Birgham Shankar won gold, whereas Aswin won the bronze.
In the 6-year-old category, Vignesh took the silver medal. Students Yadav and Epsan won silver medals in the junior category. Student Allen Kurian won the bronze medal.
