Muscat: Dr Mohammed bin Hamad Al Rumhi, minister of oil and gas, yesterday inaugurated the state-of-the-art Schlumberger oilfield services facility in Nizwa.
Al Rumhi highlighted the long-lasting relationship between Oman and Schlumberger which spans more than 58 years. In addition, Oman has always sought to attract international companies to increase economic growth rates, develop local talent and open the Oman market to various local and foreign investments to increase national income and provide more job opportunities for local citizens, said a company release.
Speaking at the event, Khalid Mugharbel, Middle East president at Schlumberger, said, "Schlumberger first started operations in Oman in 1955, and over the past 58 years we have grown with the oil and gas industry from our humble beginnings to where we are today with multiple locations and with most of the business lines we offer today in Oman."
"We intend to continue our journey in Oman and maintain an uninterrupted presence until the last drop of hydrocarbon is produced, and we will do this with an attitude that embracing the local communities and businesses not only increases in-country value but that it also makes good business sense for Schlumberger. This combination is the best way to ensure sustainable growth for all parties involved," added Mugharbel.
Hamad bin Hamoud Al Qasabi, director-general of the Nizwa Industrial Estate, underlined the importance of such international companies in the estate.
"Schlumberger is one of the world's leading organisations specialised in oilfield services, and therefore, the presence of Schlumberger oilfield services facility in Nizwa Industrial Estate represents a significant support for other projects in the estate."
Senior officials of the oil and gas sector in Oman, chief executives and officials of the oil companies, members of the in country value committee, and Schlumberger executives graced the occasion.
The minister expressed gratitude and appreciation to Schlumberger for selecting Oman as the prime location for the new oilfield services operations facility, offering the latest methodologies and advanced technologies for the national and international oil companies operating in Oman.
"This project will undoubtedly play a vital role in creating job opportunities for the national manpower, besides offering training and rehabilitation opportunities for the Omani youth in oil and gas sector," Al Qasabi said, adding: Reflecting the belief that diversity spurs creativity, collaboration, and understanding of customers' needs, Schlumberger employs over 118,000 people in 85 countries.
The Schlumberger operations facility in Nizwa currently has 250 employees 78 per cent of whom are Omani nationals. Schlumberg came to Oman in 1955.
