Dietary Remedies For Arthritis

Although there are number of therapies present to treat arthritis but the role of a good, well-rounded diet cannot be avoided. It is important to know what to eat and what not to eat.Following is a brief account of most effective dietary cures for arthritis:

Cherry Juice
Cherry juice is a very beneficial treatment for arthritis as it contains many anti-inflammatory properties that can eliminate uric acid from the bloodstream and also reduce the signs of arthritis to a large extent.Mostly it can cure all types of arthritis, however it is more effective in the treatment of gout.

Cold Water Fish
Fishes are rich sources of omega-3 fatty acids that are effective in the cure of pain and inflammation caused by arthritis.Cold water varieties of fish such as salmon, tuna etc. are best sources of anti-inflammatory fats.

Anti-Inflammatory Fruits
Pineapple and papaya are good source to cure arthritis effectively.Papaya contains papain and pineapple is rich in bromelain.These protease enzymes are super foodsand relieve inflammation caused by arthritis.There are some other anti-inflammatory fruits likeraspberry,blackberry,strawberry,elderberryand cranberry.

Olive Oil
Olive oil is natural anti-inflammatory oil that provides significant pain relief to arthritis patients. It is mainly consumed as a cooking fat but can also be used in various ways such as a dressing in the salad.

Olive oil contains oleocanthalwhich has the power to block arthritis causing enzymes in our bodies.Research proves that 2 tablespoons of olive oil has the same effect as 225mg of ibuprofen.

Eating cauliflower can get many natural anti-inflammatory nutrients like vitamin K,selenium and omega-3 fatty acids.It also introduces indole-3-carbinol to your body – a powerful molecule that prevents inflammation.

Selenium present in cauliflower regulates inflammation and provides strength to your immune system.Cauliflower is the best dietary cure for arthritis, particularly in case of rheumatoid arthritis.

Foods Rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acids
While omega-3 fatty acids are healing food for arthritis, omega-6 fatty acids do the opposite by aggravating the condition.So you are highly recommended to avoid corn oil and sunflower oil in your foods as they are rich in omega-6 fatty acids.

Olive oil is safer alternative to other vegetable oils.Flax seeds, walnuts and cold water fish like salmon and tuna are the best source of omega-3 fatty acids.These foods are effective to treat arthritis.

Foods Rich In Bioflavonoid
Two main types of bioflavonoids beneficial for arthritis patients are quercetin and anthocynadins.They are powerful and healthier substitutes to arthritis medications like aspirin and ibuprofen.So intake of these 2 bioflavonoids is very helpful to cure arthritis.

Anthocynadins are present in eggplant,blackberries,cherriesand red grapes. Food sources of quercetin include apricots and apples with skin,broccoli, kale,cherry tomatoes,leeks and cocoa powder.Foods rich in both bioflavonoids includes blueberries, blackcurrants and elderberries.

Selenium-Rich Foods
Selenium is a powerful mineral that your body requires to fight against inflammation, pain and other signs of arthritis. You can develop osteoarthritis of the knees due to decrease in selenium.

Studies have found that lack of selenium rich foods in your diet can develop into chronic arthritis.So to cure arthritis your diet should be rich in selenium dense foods that are tuna,whole-wheat pasta,shrimps,whole-grains,wheat germ,lean beef,turkey,tilapia,crab,oyster and Brazil nuts.

Green Tea
Green tea contains many natural antioxidants that are absent in black tea.Medically this antioxidant is known as EGCG that is epigallocatechin-3-gallate. Because of inflammation certain chemicals are released that cause pain in the joints. EGCG is a potent antioxidant that can block the production of these inflammatory chemicals.Due to this reason, drinking green tea is highly advisable to battle against arthritis and it also helps to make your joints stronger and healthier.

Vitamin C-Rich Foods
Medical research confirms that less amount of vitamin C rich diet makes you 4 times more prone to develop certain forms of arthritis.So have a more vitamin C rich diet daily. Best sources of vitamin C include guava,bell peppers, oranges, grapefruit, strawberries, pineapple, broccoli, kiwi and kidney beans. Overdose of vitamin C is not suitable for people suffering from osteoarthritis.It is better to consult about the suitable dose of vitamin C with your health practitioner before starting it.

Although these foods are going to help you cure the problem, you must also avoid foods that are known to aggravate the problem. They include red meat,sardines,broth,shellfish,beans and other purine rich food items.
