Karan Negi and Areeb Usman who are here in Oman on holiday are making the most of their stay in Muscat as they advanced to the finals of the men's doubles of the Falcon Insurance Company-sponsored Annual Tennis Tournament organised by the Indian Social Club Muscat.
Earlier in the semifinal, the top seeds faced stiff some resistance in the first set but stormed through the second game displaying some thrilling table tennis to defeat fourth seeds Girish KK and Rohan Negi in staright games 6-4, 6-2.
Honours were evenly shared by both set of players until three-games-all when Karan Negi and Areeb Usamn broke Rohan and Girish to take a slight lead for 4-3.
Girish and Rohan immediately broke back to even out the score. The top seeds then fought back brilliantly and broke the pair again and held to win the first set.
A change of strategy worked well for the top seeds who then breezed through the second set with little or no difficulty.
Girish and Rohan had earlier defeated veteran Ronnie Pereira and talented teenager Kenneth Vaz 8-3 in the quarter finals to book a spot in the last four. The third seeded team of Mohan Kannan and Nevil Philips advanced to the semifinals after downing the duo of Armaan.
Sattikar and Subash Pillai 8-3. In the semis, they will take on second seeds R. Murali and Suhail Khan to cruised to the last four with a comfortable 8-0 blanking of Anthony and Ashton D'Souza.
Alen Tom defeated Pranav Vinod 8-3 to advance to the last eight of the boys' under-17 singles and Girish KK had no difficulty in his 8-0 win over Rajan Philips to advance to the quarterfinals of the veterans' singles.
