'Craft plays major role in national growth'

Economic march: The focus on traditional industries highlights the importance of the Omani craft in promoting the economy and diversifying the sources of income. ONA
Muscat:
Sheikha Aisha bint Khalfan Al Siyabiyah, Chairperson of the Public Authority for Craft Industries (PACI) has hailed the growth and development since the dawn of Renaissance.
On the occasion of the National Day, she lauded the accomplishments of the Sultanate, thanks to the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
In a statement to Oman News Agency to mark the Sultanate's celebrations of the 42nd Glorious National Day, the PACI Chairperson said that the Omani crafts is one of the sectors that contribute to achieving economic diversification, which is part of the Sultanate's growth strategy.
She pointed out that since its establishment, PACI has played a key role in implementing various plans and programmes to enhance the contribution of the craft industries in supporting the development efforts. This reflects the Royal approach on the importance of strengthening general and comprehensive concept for the economic and social development.
The focus on traditional industries highlights the importance of the Omani craft industries in promoting the economy and diversifying the sources of income, she said.
His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said has said that the well being of the future generations would depend upon the sense of belonging between them and their land, she added.
"A sense of pride towards our ancestors' traditions is a must and sincere efforts have to be exerted to utilise the natural resources for stimulating the potential of Omani youth to practise various Omani crafts."
On behalf of all the craftsmen and personnel of PACI, Sheikha Aisha expressed her utmost thanks and appreciation to His Majesty the Sultan for the continuous Royal attention accorded by His Majesty to this sector.
