Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, presided over the military parade at the Sultan Qaboos Air Academy to mark the Sultanate's 42nd Glorious National Day.
The symbolic units representing the Sultan's Armed Forces (SAF), Royal Guard of Oman (RGO) and Royal Oman Police (ROP) took part in the parade.
His Majesty the Sultan was received by General Sultan bin Mohammed Al Nu'amani, Minister of the Royal Office, Sayyid Badr bin Saud bin Harib Al Busaidi, Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs, Lt-Gen. Ahmed bin Harith Al Nabhani, Chief-of-Staff of the Sultan's Armed Forces, and Air Vice-Marshal Mattar bin Ali Al Obaidani, Commander of the Royal Air Force of Oman (Rafo).
Upon His Majesty's ascension to the Royal dais, the parade column gave the military salute and the joint military band played the Royal Anthem, while the artillery gave a 21-gun salute to His Majesty.
Later, the commander of the parade column approached the Royal box asking for permission of His Majesty to start the military parade which began with the joint military musical march representing the Corps of the Sultan's Armed Forces, Royal Guard of Oman, Royal Oman Police and the Royal Court Affairs (RCA). The march passed in military formation before the Royal box.
The columns of the protocols Guard represented by the Royal Army of Oman (RAO), the Royal Air Force of Oman, the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO), the Royal Guard of Oman and the Royal Oman Police staged a parade in regular columns to the tune of the joint military musical notes and passed before the Royal box saluting His Majesty.
The columns of the Protocols Guard sang the military anthem which was followed by the slogans of the loyalty and allegiance to His Majesty, proclaiming thrice Long Live His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. Afterwards, the Royal Anthem was played and the Columns of the Protocols Guard gave the military Salute to His Majesty, signalling the conclusion of the parade.
The parade was also attended by Their Highnesses, the chairmen of the State Council and Majlis Al Shura, ministers, advisers, commanders of the Sultan's Armed Forces, Royal Oman Police and Royal Guard of Oman as well as military and security apparatuses.
Other guests present on the occasion were honourable members of the State Council and members of the Majlis Al Shura, undersecretaries, judges, heads of the diplomatic missions of the countries accredited to the Sultanate, governors, walis, the military attaches, commanders and senior military officers, state's senior officials, sheikhs, dignitaries, commissioned and non-commissioned officers and personnel of the Sultan's Armed Forces, Royal Oman Police, Royal Guard of Oman and security services.
