Muscat: Shifa Al Jazeera Group has announced the winners of 11th Shifa Al Jazeera socio-economic-charity-media awards during a press conference here. Awards will be distributed in a gala event scheduled on February 1, 2013 in Muscat, said Mohammed Rabeeh Rabeeullah, chairman of the group.
The award winners are P. N. C. Menon for humanitarian work, M. A. M. Babu Mooppan for entrepreneurship, Prof. Gopinath Muthukad for his contribution to the art of magic and culture of India, T. C. Mohammed Ashraf for his services to Indian expatriate community, Abdul Lathief for his contributions to his own village and Bindhu Menon for excellence in media.
Menon is a non-resident Indian Gulf-based businessman hailing from Palakkad in Kerala. He is the founder and chairman of Bangalore-based construction company Sobha Developers Limited. Menon is ranked as the 897th in Forbes World billionaire list and fifth richest Indian in Gulf Cooperation Council countries with a personal asset worth $1.25 billion.
Babu is the director of Nippon Motor Corporation Pvt, major dealer of Toyota cars in Kerala. Being a farsighted entrepreneur, he started his company in 1999 and successfully marked his name in the automobile market in India. Muthukad is a magician, escapologist and performer from Kerala, India. He employs magic as a medium to convey his messages to society. He won the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy Award in 1995.
Ashraf is the president of Kerala Muslim cultural centre in Muscat. He leads a team of humanitarian activists in Oman for the welfare of poor Indian expatriates as well as less privileged citizens back at home. Abdul Lathief is a businessman in Muscat. He has implemented various humanitarian projects in his own village Uppala, Kasaragod, Kerala. Bindu Menon is the GM of Asianet TV channel in the Middle East.
