Muscat: A family claims to have been suffering from fire incidents for some time but the cause of which, they say, has not been figured out as yet.
After a relative calm, which the Al Butainy family says lasted for two months, the family's rented house in Al Feelaj area in the wilayat of Jaa'lan bani Bu Ali was gutted in a fire last week. The fire gutted the walls and ceiling of the house, Ali Al Butainy, the family's head told Times of Oman.
Ali claimed that the cause of the fire remains a mystery for them and that the blaze erupts without any cause, striking fear among the 50 members of the family.
They claim that fire incidents have gutted more than 20 houses of the family, six vehicles, furniture and electrical appliances in Saih Alala, Al Areesh and Al Faleej areas. Following the spate of fire incidents, the family was forced to leave their previous house in Al Arshan area which was also gutted in fire. Al Butaini has appealed to the authorities to find a safe place for the family.
No casualties have been reported among the family members so far, Ali said, adding: "My family lives in fear and horror due to the fire that alights itself without any reason and leaves us homeless and penniless," Ali claimed. He said that it has become difficult to rent a house because owners are afraid to lose their property.
The fire that ignites appears in the form of gaseous fire and is not a normal fire and the smoke is completely different from the natural fire as it causes severe suffocation.
Personnel from the Civil Defence who were in the house that was gutted by the fire, failed to explain the cause. The personnel were on the standby for three days to douse fire if it erupted.
It may be mentioned that such cases were reported in the wilayat Nizwa and Al Hamra six years ago, which led to substantial loss of property albeit no casualties were reported.
