Muscat: Unseeded Percy Pereira caused a major upset at the Annual Tennis Tournament organised by the Indian Social Club Muscat and sponsored by Falcon Insurance Company when he sent the No.1 seed in the men's singles, R. Murali crashing out.
In the quarterfinal, Percy forced R. Murali into submission to register a splendid 8-6 victory. In the earlier round, Percy had blanked Sunil Sadanandan 8-0. In other men's singles matches, Girish KK beat Raj Sugandhia 8-6, Ronnie Pereira beat Arun Philips 8-1, Suhail Khan earned a walkover against Viswanath.
In the veterans' singles, Viswanath beat A. D'souza 8-3, Girish KK beat R. Philips 8-0, and R. Pereira blanked N. Raina 8-0
