Muscat: Indian School Sohar held its 20th Annual Sports Day on November 7 at the Sohar Sports Stadium with much fanfare and enthusiasm.
Salem bin Amer bin Salem Al Hamdi, regional manager, Dhofar Bank, Sohar graced the occasion as the chief guest and Mohammed Ismail Al Kamali, director, Ministry of Sports Affairs, Al Batinah, Sohar was the guest of honour.
The day started with a formal welcome speech by Principal Sanchita Verma. She presented the annual sports report enumerating the various achievements of the students.
The students presented a synchronised and rhythmic march past led by the members of the council and their house captains.
The symbolic torch, held aloft by the individual champions of the previous sports meet, circled the arena and was finally handed over to the chief guest, who then declared the meet open.
A solemn oath to upheld the dignity of the game and keep the spirit of sportsmanship alive throughout the meet was administered by the sports captain Chandrakant.
The highlight of the event was the impressive mascot of the 20th Annual Sports Day — sher the jungle king Namir.
Young students took part in the funny and innovative races like fishing race, filling the bucket race, etc. The audience were filled in with awe and wonder by the difficult stunts performed by the students in the Cycle Pyramid.
The colourful and rhythmic drills performed by the students with props were a sight to behold.
The races for boys and girls and 400m mixed relay for all categories evoked a lot of passion and fervour among all the house members and the audience and the ground reverberated with spontaneous applause.
A special game was organised for the parents. They took part in large numbers and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. This effort was highly appreciated by all.
The Green house emerged as the overall winner.
