U-12 finalists: Yash Tanna.Pic: Times of Oman
Muscat:
Yash Tanna and Amaan Kazi have lined-up what should be a cracker of a showdown when the two will clash tomorrow morning in the semifinals of the under-12 singles at the Falcon Insurance Company-sponsored Annual Tennis Tournament organised by the Indian Social Club Muscat.
Yash, the top seed has progressed to the semifinal after two convincing victories. In the quarterfinal, Yash played strong ground strokes to outplay left-hander Sanjana Girish 8-3.
Sanjana started on a positive note and broke Yash in the very first game. Yash faced some resistance but settled down to reel the next six games when Sanjana rallied to pull back the next two games. Yash forced the pace of play and thrived on Sanjana's unforced errors to wrap up victory for a berth in the semi-finals.
Amaan Kazi has shown tremendous improvement since his debut last year. His is playing with maturity and a cool temperament. In the quarterfinal, Amaan recorded a fine 8-0 victory over Anurag Kumar. The two lads exchanged some brilliant rallies but Amaan's mental toughness and consistency prevailed.
Top seed in the boys' under-17 singles Nevil Philips advanced to the semis with a 8-0 blanking of Raj Sugandhia, No. 2 Armaan Sattikar scored a convincing 8-2 win over Alen Tom and third seed Kenneth Vaz earned the right to play Armaan in the semis with a 8-3 victory over Avinash Menon.
